CrossFit is a workout methodology based on constantly-varied high intensity movements that help everyday life.
Steve created this gym within the confines of his garage, in hopes of uniting physical fitness with an enjoyable competitive essence. The start of this gym was in result of Steve undergoing major spinal surgery and needing a healing outlet. The world of CrossFit offered Steve and his companions’ impeccable results in both their strength and wellbeing. Steve has witnessed the growth of his gym from his garage, to a small retail space and now the 5,000 square foot gym.
Dave joined SOAR in 2012 and provides first-rate programming, results-oriented coaching and trainer development. Experience the life changing results by bettering yourself with the CrossFit SOAR team.
From Steve: “In naming the box, I wanted something that would be inspirational and motivational. For me personally, I take a lot of meaning and inspiration from eagles and hawks. I thought the imagery and symbolism was pretty cool, combining the concept of ‘soar’ with ‘beyond your limits.’
One thing I have always been interested in is the artificial constraints folks put on themselves and their performance – be it physical, mental, emotional or whatever. That’s why the only two words I don’t allow in the box are ‘can’t’ and ‘hate.’ It’s been my experience that folks almost always have a whole lot more potential than they think; they have limits in their mind of what they can/can’t do, and then become a victim of that. So CrossFit for me, really addresses that head on - just look at someone trying to do Fran when they’re starting CrossFit, and then trying again after CrossFitting for a year. Waaaay beyond their limits!
So from that concept – eagle/hawk, with ‘soar’ and ‘beyond your limits’ – it came down to the design. I thought a tribal tattoo style for the wings was pretty badass. And now – with all that background – why capitalize SOAR? Well I’ll tell you:
Oh, and the orange diamond is from the WWII US Army Rangers. Cliff-scalin’, machine-gun-nest-bustin’, Nazi-ass-whuppin’, balls-larger-than-life-itself bona fide Badasses! I’m very proud to have served in the long lineage of US Rangers, who have fought with valor and distinction in every conflict this country has ever had (and some before we were born as a nation). The Rangers was my proving ground for taking my theories and embracing punishing realities – pushing far far far Beyond My Limits! So, Enjoy the Ride :).
The Foundations program is where athletes-in-training go to learn the elements of CrossFit. All the major lifts and movements will be taught from scratch with an emphasis on technical proficiency. If you have no CrossFit experience prior to coming to SOAR, you must take Foundations. Foundations consist of five to six 30 minute personal training sessions. At each session a certified Coach will teach you the basics of CrossFit and take you through a short workout.
After you complete Foundations, your coach will recommend you to take Foundations again or to join the regular classes. MOVEMENTS ARE STILL TAUGHT AND SCALED IN REGULAR CLASSES. YOU ARE NEVER ON YOUR OWN! We do expect you to take more responsibility in regards to how much weight to use and to understand your own physical capabilities as time goes on in regular classes. All coaches welcome any questions you may have during a class/WOD.
